About the Friday Night Lights 5K & Festive Fun Run

The route runs through a winter lights festival on a university campus, so the course is lined with holiday displays the whole way. It happens after dark, which is the point: the lights are the scenery. There is a shorter fun run around the festival grounds and a longer 5K option, both starting from the Campus Center.

Check-in is inside the Campus Center before the runs begin, and the campus parking lots on West Georgia Drive serve as the main spots to leave your car. Pizza is available afterward in the same building, with cheese, pepperoni, and veggie options. Outfit awards are part of the evening, so dressing up is encouraged.

Common Questions About the Friday Night Lights 5K & Festive Fun Run

Will I finish last at the Friday Night Lights 5K & Festive Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 34:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:00:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Friday Night Lights 5K & Festive Fun Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (109 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Friday Night Lights 5K & Festive Fun Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:03 while the median finisher took 34:59. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
