About the Freakin Freezin 5K - Chattanooga

This is a winter run in Chattanooga, and the organizers lean into the cold rather than apologize for it. The course is chip-timed from start to finish, and a few water stations are spread along the route. Weather is part of the deal here; snow is possible, and that seems to be the point.

There is no separate pickup day or location to track down. Bibs are available at the race site on the morning of the run, with enough time before the start to get settled and warm up.

Common Questions About the Freakin Freezin 5K - Chattanooga

Will I finish last at the Freakin Freezin 5K - Chattanooga?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:33, and the last recorded finisher came in around 58:57, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Freakin Freezin 5K - Chattanooga a good first 5K?

It is a small race (79 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Freakin Freezin 5K - Chattanooga?

The 5K winner ran 20:40 while the median finisher took 37:33. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
