About the Fox Trot 5K & 1Mile Bark in the Park

The course runs through Fair Hill Nature Center, a preserve in the hilly terrain of northeastern Elkton. Expect real elevation changes on the trails rather than a flat road loop. Dogs are welcome on the shorter distance, which makes for a different kind of morning than a typical road race.

Parking is in a covered bridge lot just across from the Nature Center. Race-morning registration opens well before the start, so late arrivals can still get sorted. The event benefits the Nature Center's environmental education programs for local schoolchildren.

Common Questions About the Fox Trot 5K & 1Mile Bark in the Park

Will I finish last at the Fox Trot 5K & 1Mile Bark in the Park?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 32:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:51, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Fox Trot 5K & 1Mile Bark in the Park a good first 3.11 Miles?

It is a small race (104 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Fox Trot 5K & 1Mile Bark in the Park?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 18:08 while the median finisher took 32:41. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
