The course runs from an outdoor plaza at a large shopping and hotel complex, so the surroundings are urban and the terrain underfoot is pavement. The route is flat. The race benefits a regional food bank, and after finishing, runners can write notes that go into weekend meal packs for local schoolchildren, which gives the morning a purpose beyond the running itself.

Packet pickup opens race morning at the plaza, so there is no separate trip the day before. Parking is in an attached garage, with direct elevator access to the plaza level. The Silver Line metro stop connects to the plaza by a walkway, which makes arriving without a car straightforward. A DJ and food are part of the post-race gathering.
