About the Flying Otter Wine Run 5k

The course runs through the vineyard itself, mostly on grass between the vines and along dirt paths through a wooded section of the property. The route loops back to the pavilion where the tasting room is. The terrain is soft and uneven enough that a personal record is unlikely, but that is clearly not the point of this one.

Packet pickup opens on race morning, an hour before the start, so there is no need to come out the day before. After finishing, the party continues at the vineyard with live music, food, and pours of their estate wine.

Common Questions About the Flying Otter Wine Run 5k

Will I finish last at the Flying Otter Wine Run 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 46:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:04, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Flying Otter Wine Run 5k a good first 5K?

It is a small race (179 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Flying Otter Wine Run 5k?

The 5K winner ran 16:10 while the median finisher took 46:37. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
