About the Florida Shamrock Distance Classic

Fort De Soto Park sits at the southern tip of a barrier island, and the course there is genuinely flat, running along the water with open sky on most sides. It is the kind of terrain where you can settle into a rhythm early and hold it, which is why runners tend to run well here. Several distance options share the same start area.

Packet pickup runs at a couple of local running stores in the days before the race, with a race-morning option at the park for those who need it. Parking inside the park closes to incoming cars shortly after the race begins, so arriving early matters. After finishing, there is beer, food, and music at a post-race celebration area inside the park.

Common Questions About the Florida Shamrock Distance Classic

Will I finish last at the Florida Shamrock Distance Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:10:17, and the last recorded finisher came in around 4:03:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Florida Shamrock Distance Classic a good first 13.1 Miles?

A field of 517 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Florida Shamrock Distance Classic?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:17:46 while the median finisher took 2:10:17. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
