About the Florida Halloween Distance Classic

The race runs through Fort De Soto Park, a county park at the southern tip of a barrier island chain. The course has the flat, open feel of coastal parkland, with water visible in places and paved paths through the trees. Costumes are strongly part of the culture here, from elaborate builds to quick clever touches, and there is a contest for them.

The park road closes early on race morning, so arriving before that cutoff is essential. Parking inside the park requires payment through an app or a kiosk. Packet pickup runs the two days before the race at running stores in Tampa and Saint Petersburg, with race-morning pickup available at the venue for those who need it.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Florida Halloween Distance Classic

Will I finish last at the Florida Halloween Distance Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:01, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Florida Halloween Distance Classic a good first 5K?

A field of 245 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Florida Halloween Distance Classic?

The 5K winner ran 17:00 while the median finisher took 35:01. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
