About the First Call 5K, 10K, & 1/2 Marathon

The course runs on the Glacial Drumlin and Fox River Trails, a paved trail system that is flat and smooth enough that even early-season legs tend to find a rhythm quickly. It serves as the closing race of a local winter run series, so many people arriving have been training together through the cold months and know each other at the start line.

Common Questions About the First Call 5K, 10K, & 1/2 Marathon

Will I finish last at the First Call 5K, 10K, & 1/2 Marathon?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.12 Miles field finished slower than 33:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:42, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the First Call 5K, 10K, & 1/2 Marathon a good first 3.12 Miles?

It is a small race (104 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.12 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the First Call 5K, 10K, & 1/2 Marathon?

The 3.12 Miles winner ran 18:35 while the median finisher took 33:12. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
