About the Fire and Rescue 5K

The Fire and Rescue 5K runs through Winchester to support the local fire and rescue foundation. Prize money goes to the top overall finishers in both the open and masters divisions, with a separate competitive category for junior runners. It is one of the few local 5Ks where the fastest runners are racing for actual cash.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Village Square Restaurant on the Winchester City Walking Mall, with a second window race morning at the start. Both options are at the same location, so you can grab your bib either night or morning without hunting for a separate venue.

Common Questions About the Fire and Rescue 5K

Will I finish last at the Fire and Rescue 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 27:52, and the last recorded finisher came in around 40:21, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Fire and Rescue 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (67 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Fire and Rescue 5K?

The 5K winner ran 16:49 while the median finisher took 27:52. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
