About the Fast & Furriest 5K
The course runs along the Sugar River Trail, a paved path that makes for an easy, smooth morning on foot. The surroundings are pleasant enough that the route is worth doing on its own, and bringing a leashed dog along is genuinely encouraged, not just tolerated. Expect other runners to show up with their dogs, which gives the whole morning a different energy than most road races.
There is live music at the event, and snacks are out for people and dogs alike. Animals from the local humane society are also on hand, which is a bit of an unusual post-race scene. All proceeds from the entry fees go toward the shelter.
