About the Farmers Market 5K Run/Walk

The course runs on paved road and loops back to the Shelbyville Farmers Market, so the start and finish drop you right in the middle of the market itself. Vendors and produce stalls are already going when runners come through, which gives the morning a different feel than a park or a parking lot start. Animal trophies go to the top finishers overall and by age group.

After the race, the market is right there to walk around, and there are restaurants and shops nearby if you want to stretch the morning out. The event benefits Healthy Shelby, a local program that supports charities around the county.

Common Questions About the Farmers Market 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Farmers Market 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:46, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:59, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Farmers Market 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (124 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Farmers Market 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 16:57 while the median finisher took 37:46. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
