About the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party

The Downtown Greenway is a paved urban trail that loops around downtown Greensboro, and this event uses it in two ways: a shorter out-and-back on the newer western stretch, and a full loop for the longer distance. Neither course is fully closed to traffic, so expect to pause at some crossings when a police officer waves you through. The trail is flat and runs through the heart of the city.

Packet pickup is the evening before at Fleet Feet on Lawndale Drive, or you can grab your bib at Morehead Park trailhead on race day before the start. After you finish, the block party takes over Spring Garden Street with food trucks, a live band, and beer for purchase, plus lawn games and kids' activities around the trailhead.

Common Questions About the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party

Will I finish last at the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:02, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:22, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party a good first 5K?

A field of 309 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Downtown Greenway Run & Block Party?

The 5K winner ran 16:58 while the median finisher took 35:02. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
