About the Discover Whitewater Series

The course runs north of downtown on gently rolling roads through open countryside, then a shorter option heads south through a bike path corridor that crosses a creek on a bridge. Both routes finish inside a football stadium, running out onto the field. The terrain is mixed pavement and path, with enough gentle elevation change to keep things interesting without anything steep.

Packet pickup is the evening before and again on race morning, both at a campus gymnasium. Parking on race day is spread across a couple of lots off the same drive, so arriving with a little extra time is worth it.

Common Questions About the Discover Whitewater Series

Will I finish last at the Discover Whitewater Series?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 31:51, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:27, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Discover Whitewater Series a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 206 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Discover Whitewater Series?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:57 while the median finisher took 31:51. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
