About the Dia de las Mascotas 5k Bash
This Day of the Dead themed race runs along a local bike trail outside Green Lake, so the surface is smooth and the route is straightforward. Dogs are welcome and encouraged to run alongside their people. Costume-wearing is very much part of the spirit here, and the dog costume contest gives the pups their own moment in the spotlight.
The afternoon has a festival feel beyond the race itself. Vendors set up on-site, and there is a brat fry running through the event. Face painting adds to the Day of the Dead atmosphere. The whole thing benefits the local animal shelter, which gives the post-race crowd a reason to linger.
