About the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - San Antonio

The course runs through parkland near Northeast Lakeview College, moving past lakes and through tree cover. The Day of the Dead theme runs deeper than the name: runners are encouraged to come in costume, and a pre-race costume contest, judged on creativity and spirit, kicks things off before the field heads out. The surroundings are quiet and natural for most of the route.

At the finish, there is a rally tent with a DJ, Mexican food and drinks, and a live awards ceremony. Names get called out as runners come in. The post-race atmosphere leans into the Dia de los Muertos celebration, with music and the costumed crowd still milling around.

Common Questions About the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - San Antonio

Will I finish last at the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - San Antonio?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 37:23, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:49:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - San Antonio a good first 3.11 Miles?

It is a small race (174 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - San Antonio?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 21:32 while the median finisher took 37:23. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
