About the Day of the Dead Half Marathon - Galveston
The race starts at Stewart Beach and follows a Day of the Dead theme throughout, with runners encouraged to show up in costume for a pre-race contest before the gun goes off. The course moves through park landscapes, and the surroundings shift between open stretches and tree cover as the route plays out along the island.
At the finish, a rally tent anchors the post-race gathering. A DJ keeps things moving, live awards are announced on site, and Mexican food and drinks are set out for finishers. The crowd at the finish is lively, and the costume contest winners get recognized before most people have caught their breath.
