About the Cummins Falls Marathon, Half, 10K, 5K

The routes run through rural Jackson County back roads, following a state scenic river for a good stretch. The shorter distance is gentler, but the longer routes earn their reputation: steep hills come up more than once, and the surrounding countryside gives you something to look at while you recover. This is a road race that draws trail runners too, which tells you something about the terrain.

Packet pickup the evening before is a drive-up event in a church parking lot in Cookeville; staff bring your bag out to your car. If you miss that, pickup is also available at the park on race morning before the start.

Common Questions About the Cummins Falls Marathon, Half, 10K, 5K

Will I finish last at the Cummins Falls Marathon, Half, 10K, 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:03:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cummins Falls Marathon, Half, 10K, 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (176 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cummins Falls Marathon, Half, 10K, 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:13 while the median finisher took 40:25. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
