About the Crooked Creek Ultra Trail Race

The course runs through a scout reservation outside Shepherdsville that is closed to the public the rest of the year. Hardwood forest, oak and hickory and beech, covers the rolling hills, and the trail has enough climbing to wear on you through multiple loops. Wildlife is around if you are paying attention. The start and finish sit near a lake.

The start area has room to set up support tents, and longer-distance runners have a designated pit stop where crews can also meet them partway through each loop. Cabins and primitive camping are available on site, and heated shower houses are open after the race.

Common Questions About the Crooked Creek Ultra Trail Race

Will I finish last at the Crooked Creek Ultra Trail Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 3:09:27, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:38:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Crooked Creek Ultra Trail Race a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (73 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Crooked Creek Ultra Trail Race?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 2:07:32 while the median finisher took 3:09:27. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
