About the Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series (October)

This edition of the series falls close to Halloween, so a costume contest runs alongside the races. Cougar Mountain's trails are rooted in forest, with enough climbing and winding singletrack to make any distance feel earned. The longer options push deep into the park, while the shorter routes still give you genuine trail running rather than a groomed path.

Post-race, Flying Lion Brewery supplies beer, and there is food to recover with. The Cougar Cup team competition is unique to the longer cross-country distance and requires teams to register the morning of the race, so anyone arriving with a crew should plan for that extra step at check-in.

Common Questions About the Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series (October)

Will I finish last at the Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series (October)?

Almost certainly not. Half the 7.6 Miles field finished slower than 1:26:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:14:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series (October) a good first 7.6 Miles?

It is a small race (74 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 7.6 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cougar Mountain Trail Run Series (October)?

The 7.6 Miles winner ran 49:04 while the median finisher took 1:26:47. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
