About the 2027 Corrida de Los Locos

The course follows the Camino Real Trail as an out-and-back, so you retrace the same ground on the way home. Running the trail puts the Jemez Mountains in view on one side and the Sangre de Cristo mountains on the other. It is an open, high-desert setting, the kind of terrain where the scenery does a lot of the work.

Packet pickup happens at the softball concession stand inside the Municipal Recreation Sports Complex, wrapping up before the main race goes off. A kids' fun run follows later in the morning. Post-race snacks are set out right after the finish, and age group awards are handed out once the field has had time to recover.

Common Questions About the 2027 Corrida de Los Locos

Will I finish last at the 2027 Corrida de Los Locos?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 49:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 2027 Corrida de Los Locos a good first 5 Miles?

It is a small race (58 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 2027 Corrida de Los Locos?

The 5 Miles winner ran 27:11 while the median finisher took 49:37. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
