About the Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic

The course runs out of Big Tesuque Campground on a lollipop loop through the Sangre de Cristo mountains, threading named trails and a canyon road before returning to the start. Snowshoes are required when conditions call for it, so the underfoot experience is genuinely wintry. Proceeds go to local search and rescue teams, who are also on-site helping run the event safely.

Parking at the campground is tight, so carpooling is encouraged and arriving early helps. There is no race-morning registration, so plan accordingly. A prize raffle for in-person runners wraps up the post-race gathering at the finish.

Common Questions About the Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic

Will I finish last at the Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic?

Almost certainly not. Half the 6K field finished slower than 59:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:57:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic a good first 6K?

It is a small race (84 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 6K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Santa Fe Snowshoe Classic?

The 6K winner ran 32:37 while the median finisher took 59:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
