About the Christmas in the Park

Christmas in the Park runs through Deming Park, so the surroundings are trees and open park land rather than streets. There are separate distance options for adults and youth, and walker awards are taken seriously here. The organizers ask that anyone signed up as a walker actually walk the full course, because the walker competition draws people who train for it.

Packet pickup is on race morning inside the Torner Center, which sits within the park itself, so you are already close to the start when you collect your bib.

Common Questions About the Christmas in the Park

Will I finish last at the Christmas in the Park?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 30:48, and the last recorded finisher came in around 50:51, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Christmas in the Park a good first 5K?

It is a small race (117 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Christmas in the Park?

The 5K winner ran 18:06 while the median finisher took 30:48. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
