About the Christmas in July 5K

The course runs through Christmas Tree Lane, a stretch of Palm and Van Ness known for its canopy of trees, which gives the route shade even in summer heat. It is flat the whole way, so there is not much to manage beyond the temperatures. The holiday-in-summer theme is the draw here, and the course itself earns it.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a Fleet Feet Sports location. If that does not work, pickup opens early on race morning. The start and finish are on Christmas Tree Lane. Strollers are welcome; pets are not.

Common Questions About the Christmas in July 5K

Will I finish last at the Christmas in July 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Christmas in July 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 707 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Christmas in July 5K?

The 5K winner ran 15:28 while the median finisher took 37:30. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
