About the Choice City Running Festival

The Choice City Running Festival splits across two days. The first evening brings a point-to-point mile on Mountain Avenue, running slightly downhill the whole way, which makes it genuinely fast. The following morning, the half marathon and shorter road races all start near Mountain Avenue and Howes Street, on road surfaces through Fort Collins.

Packet pickup opens at a local running store the evening before the mile, then moves to the finish area on Mountain Avenue for the mile itself, with a final early-morning window on race day for the longer distances. Race-morning pickup is available if you cannot make the earlier times.

Finish-Time Stats

Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

Common Questions About the Choice City Running Festival

Will I finish last at the Choice City Running Festival?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:10:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Choice City Running Festival a good first 5K?

A field of 270 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Choice City Running Festival?

The 5K winner ran 16:47 while the median finisher took 31:56. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
