About the Charlottesville Ten Miler

The route takes a rolling tour through Charlottesville, passing through the University of Virginia grounds, up along Rugby Road, down Preston Avenue, around Court Square, and through the Park Street neighborhoods before finishing by the Corner. It is a road race with real hills throughout, not a flat out-and-back, and the surroundings shift from campus architecture to historic downtown streets to residential blocks.

Common Questions About the Charlottesville Ten Miler

Will I finish last at the Charlottesville Ten Miler?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10 Miles field finished slower than 1:31:11, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:56:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Charlottesville Ten Miler a good first 10 Miles?

With 2,232 finishers there are runners at every pace, so you are never out on your own. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Charlottesville Ten Miler?

The 10 Miles winner ran 50:10 while the median finisher took 1:31:11. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
