About the Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI

The trails at Proud Lake State Recreation Area are wide and runnable, with occasional roots and the possibility of spring mud. What makes this race unusual is the format: you can run the same course in full daylight, return in the evening by headlamp, or do just one. The evening races begin before sunset and carry well into dark, the woods feeling entirely different at night.

Packet pickup happens on-site before each race, with no early option the day before. Parking is at the campground entrance, not the main park gate, and entry requires a state recreation passport collected at the gate. Between the two races, there is hot food, a potluck, and lawn games for anyone who wants to hang around.

Common Questions About the Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI

Will I finish last at the Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:09:52, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:36:04, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI a good first 10K?

A field of 305 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Carpe Diem - Carpe Noctem Half Marathon and 10K - MI?

The 10K winner ran 41:57 while the median finisher took 1:09:52. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
