About the Black Toenail Friday Half Marathon and 7.5 Miler - MI
The course runs through Proud Lake Recreation Area, weaving through wooded trails with a few rolling hills. Late fall means bare trees, cold air, and occasionally some snow underfoot, which is part of the appeal. The terrain is well-marked and groomed, so you spend more energy running than navigating. Both distance options share the same general character: forest, open patches, and the occasional glimpse of a lake.
Packet pickup happens race morning near the start and finish, which sit at the Modern Campground. The mid-morning start gives you time to sleep off Thanksgiving dinner before heading out. After you finish, there are campfires, ramen, and hot cocoa waiting, and plenty of people lingering to cheer in the slower waves.
