About the Cajun Cup 10K & 1 Mile

The Cajun Cup runs through Parc Sans Souci in Lafayette, a park setting close to downtown. The race is a fundraiser for the university's cross country and track programs, so the crowd skews athletic and the atmosphere feels more like a fast morning workout than a casual weekend outing. There is a course time limit, and runners needing extra time may be redirected to the sidewalk.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at Geaux Run, a local running store, with race-morning pickup at the park as a backup. A shoe donation drive runs alongside the race, with collection boxes at both locations. The race is also part of a Triple Crown series, and registering for all three together qualifies runners for additional perks from the Cajun Road Runners club.

Common Questions About the Cajun Cup 10K & 1 Mile

Will I finish last at the Cajun Cup 10K & 1 Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 10K field finished slower than 1:01:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:45:06, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Cajun Cup 10K & 1 Mile a good first 10K?

A field of 722 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 10K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Cajun Cup 10K & 1 Mile?

The 10K winner ran 30:50 while the median finisher took 1:01:57. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
