About the Butts & Guts 5K

The course winds through Audubon Park, moving beneath the old oaks on a flat route that stays mostly on park paths. It is the kind of course where you can find a rhythm early and hold it, with shade overhead for most of the way. The race starts and finishes at one of the park shelters, keeping everything in one place.

Street parking runs along Magazine Street, with some spots inside the park as well. Post-race refreshments are set up at the finish area after the run.

Common Questions About the Butts & Guts 5K

Will I finish last at the Butts & Guts 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:25, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:21:14, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Butts & Guts 5K a good first 5K?

A field of 267 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Butts & Guts 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:52 while the median finisher took 33:25. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
