About the Bunyan Battle 5K Run/Walk
The course runs out and back along a paved trail through Island Lake State Recreation Area, turning around at the halfway point and retracing the same path to the finish. The trail surface is smooth the whole way, though stroller users should expect a few slightly rough patches. Late fall means the surrounding trees are typically well into their color change by race morning.
Packet pickup happens at the park on race morning before the start, so there is no separate trip the day before. The park requires a Michigan State Park pass for entry, so factor that in before you drive out.
