About the Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk

The course runs through Hampton Park, starting near a large gazebo and looping around a pond on gravel paths before heading out onto the surrounding park road for a couple of laps, then returning to the pond path and finishing on the far side of the gazebo. Volunteers are stationed throughout and printed maps are available race morning.

Packet pickup the day before runs afternoon into evening at Fleet Feet West Ashley. On race morning, the park closes to cars early, so arriving before the expo opens matters if you want to park inside. Free parking is also available a short walk away at the Hagood lot near Fishburne Street. After the race, the Wellness Expo continues with healthy snacks, a raffle drawing, and age-group awards.

Common Questions About the Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 38:31, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:22:28, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 264 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Building Healthy Communities 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 17:37 while the median finisher took 38:31. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
