About the Bucs Bounty 5K Run/Walk

The course runs on the Florida Southwestern State College campus, mixing paved roads, sidewalks, and parking lots beneath oak trees and alongside a lake. The shorter distance loops the lake and returns to the finish, while the longer route winds more broadly through campus. Beads are tossed to runners along the way, which gives the whole thing a bit of a parade feel.

Packet pickup is the evening before at the campus. The event benefits the collegiate high school that shares the campus, and wheelchair racers are welcome in the longer distance.

Common Questions About the Bucs Bounty 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Bucs Bounty 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:45, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:56, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bucs Bounty 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (111 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bucs Bounty 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 19:38 while the median finisher took 31:45. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
