About the Buckeye Trail

The course runs point to point through national park trails, starting at one trailhead and finishing at another. The terrain is what you'd expect from a longtime Buckeye Trail route: rooted singletrack, wooded and rolling, with no pavement to speak of. The shorter option covers the same ground as the longer race, just without doubling back.

Common Questions About the Buckeye Trail

Will I finish last at the Buckeye Trail?

Almost certainly not. Half the 50K field finished slower than 7:02:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 9:52:03, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Buckeye Trail a good first 50K?

It is a small race (193 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 50K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Buckeye Trail?

The 50K winner ran 3:52:33 while the median finisher took 7:02:59. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
