About the Brazos Bend 50

Brazos Bend State Park is about as flat as trail running gets in Texas. The course winds through crushed gravel, shaded singletrack, and wide horse trails with almost no elevation change, which makes it genuinely fast for a trail race. The park is known for its alligators, and spotting one along the course is a real possibility, not a gimmick.

The park runs a shuttle for participants and guests, so parking logistics are handled before you arrive at the start. Aid stations are well-stocked and volunteers are plentiful, which matters when you are out there for a long stretch. A free kids run happens alongside the main event, and there is time to linger after you finish.

Common Questions About the Brazos Bend 50

Will I finish last at the Brazos Bend 50?

Almost certainly not. Half the 50 Miles field finished slower than 11:44:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 14:54:43, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Brazos Bend 50 a good first 50 Miles?

It is a small race (169 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 50 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Brazos Bend 50?

The 50 Miles winner ran 6:53:06 while the median finisher took 11:44:07. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
