About the Bob Marshall Trail Races

The course runs out of a Nordic ski trail center on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, mixing groomed ski trails with rugged singletrack and forest service roads. There is real elevation gain, especially on the longer options, and no pavement anywhere. Moose and elk are a genuine possibility, not just a marketing line.

Packet pickup and a pre-race meeting both happen at the trailhead start area on race morning, so there is no separate trip the night before. The finish line has snacks and refreshments waiting.

Common Questions About the Bob Marshall Trail Races

Will I finish last at the Bob Marshall Trail Races?

Almost certainly not. Half the 50K field finished slower than 6:17:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 7:57:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Bob Marshall Trail Races a good first 50K?

It is a small race (15 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 50K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Bob Marshall Trail Races?

The 50K winner ran 5:05:49 while the median finisher took 6:17:22. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
