About the Berkeley Trail Adventure

The course runs through Tilden Regional Park and Wildcat Canyon, two connected East Bay parks with a real mix of terrain. Shady stretches under coast live oak and eucalyptus give way to open ridgeline sections where the bay comes into view, along with the Golden Gate Bridge on a clear day. Several distance options make it workable for a first trail outing or a longer effort.

Parking is free at Lake Anza inside Tilden, where the race also starts. Check-in runs race morning before the first wave goes off. Dogs are welcome on course but must start at the back and stay leashed. The post-race spread includes fresh fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and a range of packaged foods.

Common Questions About the Berkeley Trail Adventure

Will I finish last at the Berkeley Trail Adventure?

Almost certainly not. Half the 6 Miles field finished slower than 1:11:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:27:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Berkeley Trail Adventure a good first 6 Miles?

It is a small race (106 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 6 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Berkeley Trail Adventure?

The 6 Miles winner ran 44:37 while the median finisher took 1:11:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.

Where can I train for the Berkeley Trail Adventure?

Join a local run club. Berkeley Running Club and others in Berkeley welcome runners of all paces, and a weekly group run is the most reliable way to hold a training block together.
