About the Beast of the Backroads

Beast of the Backroads is a mixed-discipline event out of Longview, with cycling, running, and rucking all on the same weekend. The entire course is paved, so there is no trail mud or rooty singletrack to worry about. Riders and runners share the same backroads setting, and the race carries a competitive edge, with cash prizes on the line for the longest cycling distance.

The start location is off the standard map grid, so the organizers share a pin rather than a street address. Worth finding that pin before race morning rather than hunting for it on the day. Podium awards go several places deep across the cycling, running, and ruck categories.

Common Questions About the Beast of the Backroads

Will I finish last at the Beast of the Backroads?

Almost certainly not. Half the 25 Miles field finished slower than 2:24:29, and the last recorded finisher came in around 22:49:36, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Beast of the Backroads a good first 25 Miles?

It is a small race (51 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 25 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Beast of the Backroads?

The 25 Miles winner ran 1:30:18 while the median finisher took 2:24:29. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
