About the Pilar McLemore Butterfly Run

The course runs through the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center, starting at the West Gate near Maude Cobb. The gardens give the route a quiet, shaded feel, more trails and greenery than a typical road race. The race raises money for the Texas Oncology Foundation, with funds staying local to support East Texas families dealing with cancer.

After the finish, there is breakfast at the arboretum. A short children's run through the gardens follows the main event, open to younger kids at no extra charge. Butterfly wings are optional but apparently common enough that the organizers feel they need to mention it.
