About the Battle Creek Patriot Run

The course runs on the roads of an active Air National Guard base, which gives it a character you won't find at a typical road race. The shorter distance is an out-and-back with one real climb over an overpass, crossed twice. The longer option adds a gravel perimeter road the base runners call the Back Loop, a pond, and a second pass over that same hill in the opposite direction.

The entrance used for the race is a smaller gate, not the main one, and all vehicles are searched on arrival, so plan a little extra time getting in. Packet pickup is near the start area. The base sits in open land, and runners have spotted wildlife in the woods along the course.

Common Questions About the Battle Creek Patriot Run

Will I finish last at the Battle Creek Patriot Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 40:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:01, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Battle Creek Patriot Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (106 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Battle Creek Patriot Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:31 while the median finisher took 40:28. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
