About the After Ate 8K and 2 Mile

The 8K takes you across a long bridge on the Virginia Capital Trail, then winds through the Greensprings and Powhatan trails before looping back across Jamestown Road to the finish. The shorter distance runs a service road parallel to Jamestown Road, out to a turnaround and back. Both courses are paved and smooth, the 8K more scenic once it gets into the wooded trail sections.

After the race, there is hot pizza and local Alewerks beer at the finish, plus music from a DJ. Runners are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food to donate to local organizations through the Salvation Army and several other community partners.

Common Questions About the After Ate 8K and 2 Mile

Will I finish last at the After Ate 8K and 2 Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 8K field finished slower than 52:00, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:24:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the After Ate 8K and 2 Mile a good first 8K?

It is a small race (79 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 8K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the After Ate 8K and 2 Mile?

The 8K winner ran 31:03 while the median finisher took 52:00. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
