About the Abner Oakes III Veterans Run 5K & 10K
This race honors a Navy veteran who founded the local veterans commission and later received one of the state's highest recognitions for his service. The proceeds go toward no-cost home repairs for military and public safety veterans across the state, done through a local chapter that has worked in dozens of cities and towns. The cause is specific and the connection to Hamden is genuine.
