The course runs through Kit Carson Park on a mix of sidewalk and trail. There are rolling hills on the trail section, so road shoes can feel a little rough through that stretch; trail or at least grippy shoes are worth considering. The longer distance option does a double loop, so you pass familiar ground on the way back out.
Parking is available at the park itself and at an adjacent mall. The start line sits inside the park, and the race uses a staggered start to keep the trail from getting congested early on. Post-race refreshments are set up after the finish, and Santa makes an appearance.
