About the 5K Fun Run and Family Walk

The course runs through Blue Star Memorial Woods, a wooded preserve on the east side of Glenview. The terrain is park paths rather than roads, so the footing is softer than a typical street race. It is a chip-timed event organized around a fundraising mission, with a kids dash and a family walk following the main run.

Race-morning bib pickup starts before the opening ceremony, so there is no need to come the day before. After the run, the park fills out with a food truck, face painting, and arts and crafts.

Common Questions About the 5K Fun Run and Family Walk

Will I finish last at the 5K Fun Run and Family Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 35:16, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:59, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 5K Fun Run and Family Walk a good first 5K?

It is a small race (116 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 5K Fun Run and Family Walk?

The 5K winner ran 19:07 while the median finisher took 35:16. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
