The course runs a couple of loops through Golden Gate Park on grass and dirt, with rolling hills throughout. It sits on the Pacific Association of USATF Cross Country Grand Prix circuit and also doubles as a preview of the course used for the regional championship, so the field tends to draw serious competitive runners from across the west coast.
