About the 12th BedStuy 5K
The course winds through Bedford Stuyvesant on streets lined with brownstones and mature trees. The organizers describe it as well-suited for a personal record, which suggests a relatively forgiving route. The neighborhood itself does a lot of the work, and this part of Brooklyn has the kind of blocks that make you slow down to look around, even when you are racing.
Prize money goes to the top finishers in both the men's and women's fields, so the front of the pack tends to draw serious competitors. The race has a strong neighborhood presence, with local elected officials and recognizable New York figures serving as grand marshals.
