About the 1000 Mile BikeWalk for Prevention
This is a charity distance-accumulation event, not a timed race. Participants bike or walk closed roadways, with a separate sidewalk route for younger kids. The goal is collective: every mile ridden or walked counts toward a shared total, and the event raises funds for a local substance abuse prevention coalition. Teams that fundraise can earn bonus mileage on top of what they cover in person.
There is also a virtual participation option for those who cannot make it out in the morning. Prizes go to top performers within several categories rather than to an overall winner. The route is designed to stay off busy streets entirely, so the feel is more neighborhood outing than road race.
