About the 1 Million Steps 2 Safety 5K Run/Walk
This is a pedestrian safety awareness event put on by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, staged at the State Police Headquarters on Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge. The course is a 5K, and the event draws road users of all kinds, walkers included, with the mission of the organizing agency baked into the morning itself.
Packet pickup happens race morning at the start location, so there is no separate trip the day before. Post-race activities follow shortly after the course closes, keeping the whole morning compact and on one site.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The 1 Million Steps 2 Safety 5K Run/Walk has been held every year since at least 2024. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
