About This Club

Oregon Road Runners Club has been putting on runs and races in the Portland metro area since 1970, so they know what they're doing.

They run two weekly group runs out of Foot Traffic stores, one in Sellwood on Thursdays and one in Cedar Hills on Mondays, and they also organize their own race calendar ranging from 5K all the way up to 50K. Walkers are explicitly welcome alongside runners, which tells you something about the vibe.

Who It Suits

This works well if you want a consistent weekly routine with an established club that also gives you a pathway into local racing when you're ready. It's a good fit for walkers, newer runners, and people coming back after a break, since the group runs are set up to accommodate a range of abilities. If you're chasing a specific workout, a tempo session, or a structured training group with pace targets, this probably isn't that.

What a Run With Them Is Like

Both group runs meet at 5:50 PM for a 6:00 PM start, so there's a real window to get your bearings before things kick off. The routes run on urban streets and paths in Sellwood and Cedar Hills, so expect pavement rather than trail.

They don't publish a set distance for the group runs, so check with Foot Traffic Sellwood or Foot Traffic Westside before you show up if mileage matters to you that week. Because walkers and runners both take part, you're not walking into a single-pace situation.

DistanceGroup runs: distances not specified, Races: 5K, 10K, 10.5 mile, half marathon, marathon, 25K, 50K depending on event
PacePace not specified; group runs described as inclusive run/walk workouts implying range of paces
TerrainUrban streets and paths in Sellwood and Cedar Hills, Paved roads and bike paths in races
Post-runFirst Thursday of each month at Sellwood group run: pizza/food provided. First Monday of each month at Westside group run: post-run refreshments provided.

Your First Run

Show up to Foot Traffic Sellwood at 1260 SE Lambert Street (Thursdays) or Foot Traffic Westside at 13306 NW Cornell Road (Mondays) by 5:50 PM, and you'll have ten minutes to figure out where everyone is gathering before the run starts. You don't need to be a member to run with the group, and there's no signup required, so just turn up.

If you're worried about pace, the fact that walkers are genuinely part of these runs means there's room for you to go at your own speed without being the odd one out. On the first Thursday of each month in Sellwood, they provide pizza afterward, and on the first Monday in Cedar Hills, there are post-run refreshments, both of which make sticking around after your first run feel a lot less awkward.
