About the Zombie 5k Run
This Halloween-themed race starts at the Cherokee High School track at dusk and winds past volunteers dressed as zombies. The optional survival challenge gives runners a set of flags at the start; zombies along the course will try to take them. Finish with a flag still attached and you have survived. Walkers and costume-wearers fit right in.
The race raises money for the school's senior class and its cross country program, so the crowd around the start and finish tends to be students, families, and local supporters. Costumes are encouraged, and plenty of people show up in full Halloween gear. There are awards for the race, plus the informal bragging rights of making it through with your flags intact.
