About the YMCA Harrisburg Marathon, Half, and Relay

The course runs through Harrisburg's streets and forested paths, crosses bridges, and loops around City Island twice for the full distance, once for the half. Because runners share the course with the public and with each other on a second pass, there is real traffic to navigate, both on foot and from spectators who turn out in genuine numbers along the route.

Packet pickup is offered the two evenings before the race at a local running store and at a nearby YMCA, with a race-morning option at City Island itself. Parking on the island fills early; the organizers suggest arriving well ahead of the start and note that nearby parking garages across the river are a reasonable backup, reached by a pedestrian bridge.

Is the YMCA Harrisburg Marathon, Half, and Relay a good first 26.2 Miles?

A field of 631 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 26.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the YMCA Harrisburg Marathon, Half, and Relay?

The 26.2 Miles winner ran 2:24:40 while the median finisher took 3:57:46. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
